The word of police should be printable as long as it is with the caveat
"according to police" without additional corroboration. The police have a responsibility bigger than journalists to be truthful and accurate, and as such what they say in press releases and conferences should be printable. The police, obviously and rightfully, have a larger impact on the justice system which means they have a bigger responsibility.
The media may be guilty of jumping the gun or misleading, but I simply do not see it in this case in the major outlets.
I'm not going to go read every news outlets article on the matter, but let's take the Washington Post which I don't think I'm going out on a limb that you would claim is guilty of what you are saying did not fail to meet that burden, nor alluded that Kraft was guilty of trafficking in this article from yesterday:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/redskins/robert-kraft-faces-two-misdemeanor-solicitation-charges/2019/02/25/056345bc-3935-11e9-a2cd-307b06d0257b_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.4c42743eb9f9
Nor the article 4 days ago:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/02/22/patriots-owner-robert-kraft-charged-with-soliciting-prostitution-jupiter-fla/?utm_term=.58a644c77da3
Nor any of the others that I looked at.
Do you have any specific examples?
